ACCUMULATING SNOW TUESDAY STARTS 6AM-9AM FROM WEST TO EAST… LIGHT SNOW THRU THE DAY… SEASONABLY COLD TEMPS XMAS & XMAS DAY, AND DRY… MORE WINTER WEATHER WITH SNOW & ICE POSSIBLE...

Good morning folks, lake effect snow showers that have been dotting the Taconics, Berkshires and southwest VT will continue to weaken today as a brief upper ridge swings into the region, providing us with less wind after some morning gusts, and an increasingly sunny day with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s.

Clouds will increase tonight as a Clipper system tracks southeast out of the northern Great Lakes area and rides along that ridge boundary, sending a warm front our way – one that is unlikely to get north of our region on Tuesday.

Lows will drop into the low to mid 20s, which will set the stage for light (to at times, moderate) snow to break out across the greater WMass region in the morning, generally starting from 6-9am or so from the Berkshires to Worcester County.

Highs Tuesday will reach the low to mid 30s, and snow will accumulate slowly during the day and late into the afternoon before ending by early evening. Temps will be marginal, so I can’t rule out some mix from Springfield to Hartford in the valley, or an end with freezing drizzle or drizzle as steadier precip departs to the east.

Regardless, a widespread 1-3” of snow is expected, with a bit more like 2-5” in southern VT, southwest NH, the Berkshires, Taconics, and western hilltowns. Lows will drop to the upper 20s.

Wednesday and Thursday (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) should feature fair weather with seasonable highs in the 35-40º range, and more sunshine for Wednesday than for Christmas Day.

Cold lows will dip into the upper teens to low 20s for XMas Eve so bundle up if you’re heading out to celebrate. Christmas Night’s lows will be more in the mid to upper 20s, so a bit milder.

By Friday through Monday, much uncertainty exists along with colder trends than I was seeing a few days ago.

A post-Christmas storm system still looms, and not unlike the track of Tuesday’s system, but with more energy and a bit more moisture.

This means more accumulating snow may arrive as early as Friday afternoon into Friday night, with other potential systems to follow with a wintry mix possible that may come in waves into Monday.

Things will get more clear as we get closer, and I will refine the details for you.

Hope you have a great day!
