A LOVELY TUESDAY IS FOLLOWED BY SUMMERY CONDITIONS INTO LATE WEEK WITH HIGH HUMIDITY AND VERY WARM TEMPS… SCATTERED SHOWER & T-STORM CHANCES INCREASE THURSDAY AND FRIDAY...

Good morning folks, last night was most welcome for its coolness, its calm and stability, and the comparative dearth of water vapor swirling around in the air – it was nice to not have to sweat by simply standing in place! Alas, it’s a one-day affair, this drier air mass but today is the day to enjoy it before we dip back into climbing dewpoints, humidity, and new instability.

For today, we’re mostly sunny with light wind and highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s with lower humidity, so get out and enjoy it if you can! Lows tonight will dip into the mid to upper 50s under partly cloudy skies with continued lower humidity.

By Wednesday, we’re in another transition back into summer humidity, and this time a bit more warmth than we’ve been accustomed to as of late.

Not that any heat waves are coming or super intolerable heat levels, but we will see an old-fashioned Bermuda High start to take shape mid to late week to the south of New England, which will pump up the jams, and by pump up the jams, I mean I am seriously dating myself AND I am (poorly) equating “jams” to “high humidity”, which for me means that I’ll be PUMPING UP THE SAD! ;-)

Wednesday looks like a decent day with partly sunny skies, increasing humidity, highs in the mid 70s to low 80s, and also with a few scattered showers as that humidity starts to work back intol the region from our south and southwest.

Lows will dip into the low to mid 60s Wednesday night during a period where the humidity will really start to rise in earnest. This leads me to think that some patchy fog will be possible as dewpoints rise up to meet those lowering temps late at night.

By Thursday and Friday we’re in the soup, folks, and air temps will be rising into the upper 70s to upper 80s. With dewpoints in the upper 60s to mid 70s, heat indices may push into the low 90s.

In addition, a disturbance will be pressing east ahead of a broad upper trough (i.e. an area of lower than average pressures aloft, this one being positioned in south-central Canada at that time).

These factors will all combine to produce periods of scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms by sometime on Thursday afternoon and evening, and since I’m going to see my bass hero Oteil Burbridge at Treehouse in Deerfield I’ll be armed with sweat-removal and rain-repelling tools and implements BECAUSE HE’S ONE OF THE BEST BASSISTS EVAH.

This same type of activity is likely on Friday, as the upper trough presses closer to New England, so suffice to say the late week period looks very humid, very warm, and with periods of wet weather that may stand up enough to produce some street flooding or even an isolated strong thunderstorm or two.

By this coming weekend, some drier signals are showing up, assuming that the upper trough keeps trucking east and out of here so we can experience some influence of the upper ridge to our south.

If so, we’re warm with highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s with humid conditions and potential for heat indices to again reach the low 90s, but with less chance of afternoon showers (though I cannot rule those out yet). Lows would be in the 60s.

By early next week, there are some signals that a storm or two may push more rainfall back into our region, especially by Tuesday, which could start a pattern shift into mid-August of less southwesterly flow and more westerly or northwesterly flow, which would mean drier and a bit cooler temps, but that’s me jumping the gun a bit.

Have a great day!
