SHOWERS EXIT THIS MORNING WITH ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LATER THIS AFTERNOON… A FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE SATURDAY AFTERNOON SOUTH OF THE PIKE WITH SUNDAY THE WEEKEND PICK…

Good morning folks, we’re waking up today with another fresh drink of water and while it wasn’t a major rainfall, many of us did land somewhere between a quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rain overnight, with some under a quarter inch. It wasn’t a drought buster, but we’ll take whatever we can get and it’s all beneficial at this stage, with some of us seeing more later today.

For this morning, our main shower shield is tracking east and out of here, but it will remain damp during this morning as humidity rises with dewpoints in the 60s into the afternoon.

Highs will reach to either side of 80º today and some partly sunny breaks are expected prior to an incoming cold front which will help spawn some isolated showers, downpours and thunderstorms later this afternoon, at any time.

Many of us will likely stay dry, but this front will have plenty of wind energy with it and as a cold pool pushes in overhead, any storms that do form could grow tall enough to produce at least some small hail, torrential rain, and also potentially tap into that wind energy and produce some strong surface gusts.

For now, it appears that areas north of Rt. 2 stand the best chance for a strong or severe storm, as well as east of I-91, but I will keep an eye on things and update you later on.

For this evening, any activity abates and lows will drop into the 55-60º range with patchy fog possible late.

On Saturday, I will be watching a low pressure system tracking along our departed cold front to our south, which should hold showers down near southern CT, RI and southeast MA, but a few could push into the northern CT area, maybe as far north as the Pike by later afternoon and early evening.

Otherwise, Saturday is a drying day for many of us, with highs in the 70s to near 80º under partly sunny skies, especially north of the Pike. Lows will drop into the mid to upper 50s with drying continuing.

Sunday is by far the weekend pick under mostly sunny skies as high pressure builds in, with southerly flow to help boost temps into the low to mid 80s for highs, with lows near 60º.

Monday looks to be a copy of Sunday with temps maybe a couple of degrees warmer.

Thereafter, an upper ridge builds in the southeast U.S. Tuesday through Thursday and will push heat and humidity into New England with highs reaching the 85-90º range on Tuesday, followed by a potential heat wave for Wednesday through Friday with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s, with some mid 90s possible by late week. A few showers may work through Tuesday night into Wednesday as a warm front opens the door for increased heat and humidity during the second half of next week.

These temps, combined with increasing humidity, could produce heat indices into the mid 90s to low 100s, and if that were to take place, we’d see Heat Advisories hoisted by mid to late next week, so I will be monitoring this meteorological development.

At the moment, it does appear that the heat would break by next weekend, but we’ll get there when we get there.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

–Dewpoints increase into the 60s, with a humid feel
–Highs reach the upper 70s to low 80s
–Isolated showers and thunderstorms develop later this afternoon, possibly lingering into early evening
–Many neighborhoods won’t see activity, but one or two storms may become strong to severe with strong gusty winds, with hail also possible
–Activity dies down tonight with lows in the 55-60º range under partly cloudy skies
–On Saturday, a secondary storm develops well south of us but may push some isolated to scattered showers into northern CT and perhaps up to near the Pike during the later afternoon
–There’s a decent chance we all stay dry on Saturday, but I can’t rule out a couple showers as per above
–Highs Saturday will rise into the mid 70s to low 80s, with lows in the mid to upper 50s as we fully dry out
–Sunday is the weekend pick with increased warmth and highs in the low to mid 80s, with lows near 60º
–Monday is a bit warmer with highs well into the 80s under sunny skies, followed by highs 85-90º by Tuesday
–A few showers are possible mid-week with a warm front followed by a potential heat wave for Wednesday through Friday
–Heat indices may rise into the mid 90s to low 100s by Thursday with air-temp highs in the mid 80s to low 90s at least, if not the mid 90s by late week
–Relief from heat and humidity should come by the weekend with a cold frontal passage
