HEAT AND HIGH HUMIDITY BUILD THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WITH SCATTERED AFTERNOON SHOWERS & T-STORMS… MID-SUMMER HEAT CONTINUES INTO WEEKEND AND EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH SUNDAY LOOKING SUNNIER

Good morning folks, our patchy fog (dense in some spots) is already in the process of dissipating as temps start to rise and come up and off of the dew point temps. This will reveal a beautiful morning sky, and a very nice summer day ahead which should be mostly dry save for a spot shower, and warm with slowly-increasing humidity. Beyond that, we’re headed back into the soup for late week, so let’s jump into the details.

For today, highs will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies with light southwest wind as weak low pressure tracks east of the Cape and high pressure tracks southeast of the New York / New Jersey Bight out into the western Atlantic Ocean.

This will allow for humidity to start slowly creeping up with southery flow developing, but not so quickly as to produce lots of shower activity, though one or two in the afternoon can’t be ruled out entirely.

Humidity will continue to increase this evening and overnight with lows in the 60s, which will set us up for a much warmer and more humid end to our work week.

For Thursday, humidity will soar in the form of low to mid 70s for dewpoint values, and possibly into the upper 70s! Yuck! Boo! Hiss!

High temps should climb well into the 80s and hit 90º in a few lower Pioneer Valley spots (provided enough partial sunshine is generated, which is always a question on such days). Should those temps come to pass, heat indices will push into the mid 90s or so.

As an upper trough slowly comes east of the Great Lakes, some impulses will be sent eastward ahead of its core, and should help to develop scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms Thursday (and Friday, which will essentially be a copy of Thursday’s weather as noted above).

One or two of said thunderstorms, should they form, could produce strong gusty winds, torrential rain, and localized flash flooding or street flooding each afternoon / evening.

Lows will hang in the 65-70º range Thursday night, and again, rinse and repeat for Friday and Friday night’s weather conditions, the way it looks now.

By the weekend, our temps may tamp down a touch, but it will still be very warm with highs well into the 80s (mid to upper for many of us, especially in the valley east and south), with more in the way of sunshine especially on Sunday.

I expect partly sunny skies on average for Saturday, with more sun in the morning, and a period of showers or a thunderstorm Saturday afternoon and/or evening.

Lows will drop into the 60s both weekend nights, and for now, Sunday looks like the weekend pick!

By early next week, I believe we’ll see one more surge and heat and humidity for Monday into Tuesday with highs in the 85-90º range with chances at afternoon showers or t-storms Monday afternoon.

By as early as Tuesday morning, a surface low pressure system may be tracking east through northern New England. This has the potential to suppress our Bermuda high (the atmospheric feature responsible for the next several days of heat, humidity and instability) further southeastward and deeper into the western Atlantic Ocean away from New England.

This would bring some rainfall through on Tuesday ahead of a cold frontal passage, possible resulting in a pattern and air mass change by the middle of next week, with drier and cooler air possible.

I will keep you updated as we get closer, and hope you have a great day!
