SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS OR A SQUALL THIS AFTERNOON, FOLLOWED BY BLUSTERY NW WIND GUSTS AND WIND CHILLS DROPPING TO BELOW ZERO FOR SOME TONIGHT…

Good morning folks, it sure is wintry out there in the areas where fresh snow pack is on the ground. And I have news for you: it’s about to get a lot more wintry, not in terms of snow, but in terms of COLD.

Again, watch out for black ice this morning and tomorrow morning given that yesterday and today some of us rise above freezing, with highs again today in the low to mid 30s under partly sunny skies.

We have an Arctic front that will rake the region later today and tonight, but not before we enjoy some rather seasonable cold before it gets wholly unseasonable and quickly tonight and tomorrow.

We’ll see some scattered flurries, snow showers, or even a snow squall or two track southeast through the region today, starting perhaps late morning in SVT, with most of any activity that does form moving through this afternoon and very early evening. Some cells may coat the ground quickly in spots and be accompanied by wind that lowers visibility so be alert if you see darkening skies ahead of you today.

Behind the front this early evening, northwest winds are going to pick up and gust 25-40mph at times, plummeting wind chill readings and temps much lower, with wind chills heading below zero for some of us later tonight.

The wind will slacken through the pre-dawn hours, but the Arctic air will be delivered to the greater WMass region with vim AND vigor, and lows temps will be down to either side of ZERO degrees overnight, so between black ice patches, wintry cold wind chills, and the coldest air of the season, you will need to bundle big time by tomorrow morning!

Friday looks mostly sunny but very cold with highs only in the upper teens to mid 20s with lighter wind. Lows will crash into the upper single digits to mid teens with clouds increasing with a storm passing to our south tomorrow night into Saturday.

Northern CT may see a snow shower or two, but I think our region remains dry into the weekend, with weekend highs in the low to mid 30s. There’s a chance the storm could come a bit closer, so I will update you if I think any precip is likely to come further north toward us, but if it did, it would be light.

We’ll drop into the teens Saturday night, but after another Arctic front swings through later Sunday, we’ll drop back down into the single digits for lows as we wake up Monday morning, and a few snow showers will be possible. Monday highs will only reach the mid teens to low 20s, even colder than tomorrow!

By Tuesday, the first in what could be a series of weaker Alberta Clipper systems may be swinging through the giant cold upper trough sitting over the eastern U.S., and bring some light accumulating snowfall, but I will keep you updated on that as we get closer.

Have a great day, and as Archie Bunker would say if he were a meteorologist giving advice to someone heading out and about late today and overnight, BUNDLE!

“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.”
