STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THIS MID TO LATE AFTERNOON… VERY WARM THROUGH MID-WEEK… CHANCE FOR SCATTERED SHOWERS OR STORMS EACH DAY MID TO LATE WEEK… RAINFALL SUNDAY PM
Good morning folks, well as it turns out our Heliosphere is still bouncing around the Cosmos with our little bodies, minds and hearts vibrating away within this Grand Circus of the Universe (GCU), and it’s my honor to get to blather and blabber on about our incoming western Mass-centric weatherings of the day as the weeks, months and years wile away into our mental rearview mirrors.
For today, we’ve got a good chance at an active one, though our morning will feature quiescence as temps come up from a very mild baseline of 50s to kick off our Tuesday.
We’ll see a mix of clouds and sunshine today, trending to more clouds by afternoon with highs expected to reach well into the 70s to low 80s.
By afternoon, I’ll be updating you by 2pm or so as a shortwave is expected to be pushing east-southeast towards central and southern New England, and we may see an isolated downpour or strong thunderstorm track north of the Rt. 2 corridor in SVT or SWNH, perhaps grazing northern MA east of the I-91 corridor.
However, as of this writing it’s more the 4-9pm timeframe give or take that could feature said shortwave pushing into areas in the greater WMass region that contain strong lapse rates (changes of temps from a warm surface to cooler sky aloft) along with wind energy that could help pop clusters of showers, downpours and thunderstorms which may congeal into a broken squall line.
This could generate strong to even severe thunderstorm activity capable of producing isolated strong wind gusts of 60mph or so along with small hail and heavy rainfall.
This activity blows through and leaves us with a quiet late-night period and lows either side of 60º.
For Wednesday and Thursday, I expect similar unseasonably warm high temps again reaching the 70s to low 80s, and I think give that we’re in this fairly unstable warm sector with waves rippling through it well south of a strong frontal boundary, we’ll see scattered shower/thunderstorm potential for each afternoon, but I will update you as we get closer to each of these periods.
Lows each night will again sit down to either side of 60º.
By Friday, our upper ridge will be receding southward, and so peak warmth still begin to fade with highs in the upper 60s to 70s, and again a chance of showers or storms in the afternoon with lows near 50º.
By the weekend, we’ll continue to slowly cool with highs more in the 60s for Saturday under mostly cloudy skies with a dry day expected prior to Sunday when we’ll be watching a strong cold front gathering a head of steam and approaching our region.
This front will sweep this first real batch of warm air out to sea, and before that happens, we’ll see rainfall develop by late afternoon and into the overnight period as the front tracks east.
Highs will reach the 60s on Sunday with lows crashing into the 30s as the front swings through.
This may help generate some lake effect snow showers into the Berkshires and SVT by early Monday morning, to be followed by blustery wind gusts of 25-40mph out of the northwest as colder air advects back into the region to remind us that we’re still in EARLY Spring!
Have a great day!

YOUR NUTSHELL:
–Very warm today, partly sunny, highs 70s to low 80s
–A shortwave dives southeast into the WMass region this afternoon
–Conditions look favorable for showers, downpours and thunderstorms to form
–An isolated cell or two possible 1-5pm north of Rt. 2 corridor
–Otherwise 4-10pm appears to be the timeframe for brunt of any storm activity
–Some storms may become strong to severe with strong wind gusts and small hail
–Wednesday is similarly very warm with highs 70s to low 80s, with isolated showers or storms possible
–Thursday, at the moment, also looks very warm with similar highs along with some scattered showers possible in the afternoon
–Lows dip to either side of 60º during this mid-week stretch into Friday morning
–Temps start to cool Friday into the weekend, but highs should remain in the 70s Friday with more showers and t-storms possible
–Highs will settle more into the 65-70º range over the weekend (still significantly above seasonal averages) with a mostly cloudy day for Saturday, but mostly dry
–By Sunday, however, a strong cold front approaches and brings rainfall in here by late afternoon or evening into the overnight period
–By Monday, we’re back to reality with highs in the upper 40s to 50s, northwest blustery gusts of 25-40mph, and a few lake effect Berkshire snow showers early
