GUSTY WESTERLIES TODAY IN AFTERMATH OF OUR FRONT THAT PRODUCED ISOLATED OUTAGES OF UP TO 50,000 HOUSEHOLDS ACROSS THE REGION… GUSTS TO 40MPH EARLY, THEN WINDS TAMP DOWN TONITE...

Good morning folks, that was quite the tempest overnight with almost 50,000 outages reported in the greater WMass region alone (WMass, CMass, SVT, SWNH & NCT which was worst hit) due to southerly gusts of 35-60mph, along with many seeing 0.75:-2.5” of rainfall. New westerly gusts behind the cold frontal passage will blow 25-40mph first half of today, so a few more outages may result.

We ended with some snow or ice overnight in the northern Berkshires and southwest VT, and now we’re left with continued cooling temps and a few snow showers behind the front.

Westerly winds will pick up and gust 25-40mph during the morning and into early afternoon before tapering down to 25mph gusts at most overnight tonight. This will produce wind chills in the teens to mid 20s at times today, especially earlier on as temps equalize and stop falling from last night’s lofty pre-frontal 50s and low 60s.

Expect partly sunny skies on average today with more clouds than sun in the western high terrain (NW.CT, Berks/Hills, SVT) with a few sprinkles or flurries and highs in the upper 20s to upper 30s.

We could see a few isolated lake effect snow showers this evening as our upper trough swings east and through the region to deliver one more cold day for Wednesday, but we should be clearing out with lows in the mid teens to low 20s, so bundle up early Wednesday morning.

Highs under sunny skies will hang in the 30s for Wednesday with lows in the low 20s, followed by a milder and equally sunny Thursday with highs in the low to mid 40s. A few snow showers work through Thursday night with a weak front as lows drop into the mid to upper 20s.

Friday is even milder with highs in the mid 40s to low 50s under increasingly sunny skies.

As we approach the weekend, there are no big storms in sight, at all, but there are at least 2 decent chances for some precipitation, the first being Saturday night into Sunday morning, with a more robust shot at some rain or snow Sunday night into early Monday.

I will need another day or so to parse out the weekend for you, but it’s not a washout, and temps look to hang well into the 40s to near 50º in some spots with lows near freezing, followed by a colder start to next week.
