FAIR WEATHER TODAY THEN SHOWERY PERIODS LATE TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING, UNSETTLED WEEK… LABOR DAY WEEKEND INCREASINGLY DRY & COOLER AFTER A FEW SPOT SHOWERS FRIDAY OR SAT...
Good morning folks, if you’re reading this then you’re still up and taking nourishment, so you’ve got that going for you. We do have one more pleasant late summer day today before clouds and a couple main batches of showers with embedded thunder run southeast through the greater WMass region this week. The first of these rounds will arrive late tonight through Tuesday, followed by the second which will push through by Wednesday afternoon into Thursday with up to 3” of new rain by the weekend, so let’s jump into the details.
For today, patchy fog primarily up in Franklin County into SW.NH / SE.VT will burn off as temps come up, reaching highs into the low 70s to low 80s under partly sunny skies. Clouds will increase later today, but we should remain dry for our Monday with a light and variable wind, sometimes out of the north.
Clouds thicken this evening with our cold front positioned down near the south coast and northern Mid-Atlantic region, and our first of two primary waves of low pressure will track southeast into the greater WMass region after midnight. Lows fall to either side of 60º.
Periods of showers will arrive during the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday morning and continue at times through Tuesday morning and into the afternoon.
High temps will only climb into the mid 60s to mid 70s from the high terrain to the valley respectively, and by later in the afternoon showers should abate to just a damp, more rain-free period with a few spot here and there into Tuesday night with lows in the mid to upper 50s.
Any lull we experience on Wednesday morning will give way to our second and likely more robust period of rainfall, with heavy rain at times Wednesday night into Thursday as our second wave of low pressure tracks southeast into our region, riding the boundary between cooler air over New England and hot and humid air over the Mid-Atlantic region west into the Ohio Valley.
Wednesday highs will again hang in the mid 60s to mid 70s with lows either side of 60º, with high temps more firmly in the 70s for Thursday.
We do have some stronger thunderstorm potential for Tuesday and/or Wednesday, but I think that is relegated mostly southwest of our region, though it could clip northwest CT and far southwest MA southeast towards the Hartford metro.
After showers wind down Thursday night and lows drop into the mid 50s to low 60s, high pressure from up in Ontario and Quebec Canadian provinces will start to track south-southeast toward New England.
This means that after anywhere from 1-3” of rainfall this week, Friday should turn out to be a partly to mostly sunny day with a couple of spot afternoon showers possible as highs rise into the upper 60s to upper 70s. As drier air works into the region, lows will dip into the 50s.
At this point in time, aside from perhaps another spot shower or two on Saturday, Labor Day Weekend is shaping up to be beautiful, sunny, albeit cooler with highs in the mid 60s to mid 70s, so we won’t be experiencing any big heat blasts for our final Summer weekend.
Still, I believe that all outdoor plans look to be weather-supportive, and our fair weather should extend into early next week as that big dome of Canadian high pressure slides south into New England.
Sounds good to me! Have a great day!
