WIND ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR WMASS, CMASS, AND NORTHERN CT TODAY THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING… BLACK ICE THIS MORNING… ISOLATED OUTAGES POSSIBLE DUE TO WIND IMPACTS…

Good morning folks, the wintry impacts keep on coming, though there is some temperature moderation behaviors expected by later next week, so we won’t stay in the deep freeze throughout the Winter of 2025-26.

For early this morning, we’ve got heavy snow this morning on the Pike from West Stockbridge through to Blandford and that is tracking east-southeast down the Pike towards Westfield so be careful out on the western limb of I-90 early this morning.

Elsewhere we’ve got plenty of black ice, mostly pretty well north of the Pike, but temps are coming DOWN today as west-northwest wind gusts up to 30-50mph are moving IN this morning.

For folks who do not like Winter weather, today is definitely going to be moving in the wrong direction, with Arctic air spilling into the region thanks to a large upper low swinging east through northern New England which will drive a strong low level jet streak (i.e. faster-moving river of air lower to the ground, about a mile up or so) through southern New England.

With much colder temps aloft, wind will more easily mix down to the surface today, and so gusts of 30-50mph are expected, and I can’t rule out a gust to 55mph or so in the high terrain, which means isolated outages are possible.

In addition, we have some lake effect snow showers as mentioned that will run over parts of the greater WMass region today with fresh coatings possible under some of the heavier ones.

Highs are happening right now (upper 20s to mid 30s) and temps will decrease during today after a leveling by late morning to mid-day. By this evening we’ll already be in the mid-teens to low 20s, and wind will be continuing overnight as Wind Advisories across the region continue through Friday morning.

Lows will drop into the mid to upper teens, but wind chills will be down to either side of 0º by the later pre-dawn hours of Friday morning.

Friday looks windy early, and partly sunny with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s, so prepare for a blustery morning followed by decreasing winds during the afternoon and evening with lows in the teens.

Saturday looks like the pick of the weekend with partly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 30s, but clouds will be increasing late in the day, and I’ll be tracking the interaction of an upper level northerly system and a surface-based Mid-Atlantic system to see if that southerly piece gets ahead just enough to be drawn more northward to produce a light accumulating snowfall in WMass, CMass and NCT with flurries or scattered snow showers in SVT/SWNH.

Otherwise, this looks like an impact mainly for CT, RI and southeast MA, but I will keep you updated.

Saturday night lows will dip into the teens to low 20s with highs only in the mid to upper 20s on Sunday.

Regardless of any light snow, these two systems will pull ANOTHER Arctic front into the region, causing winds to pick up Sunday night into Monday and lows to drop into the single digits Sunday night and highs in the low to mid 20s.

Monday and Tuesday look cold and sunny, but a few snow showers are possible by Tuesday night as a warm front pushes into the region, and then milder temps with highs in the mid to upper 30s arrive on Wednesday with even milder highs into the low to mid 40s possible by late week.

Have a great day!
