SHOWERS ARRIVE THIS AFTERNOON AFTER SOME EARLIER WIND GUSTS… ANY RAIN QUITS BY MIDNIGHT… DRIER, SUNNIER, COOLER END TO THE WEEK FOR THURSDAY AND FRIDAY… MORE SHOWERS FOR SATURDAY…
Good morning folks, we’ve got a cold front on the way for this afternoon and evening, and after a cloudy start, we’ll see showers move into the region during the early to mid-afternoon from west to east, reaching the NY border with southwest New England by about noon or so.
Before rain arrives, and as temps come up into the mid to late morning we could see some southerly wind gusts kick up to 15-30mph at times, but that should tamp down as showers push into the region from west to east.
Highs will reach mainly into the 60s for our Wednesday, and we’ll see less rain in north-central and northeast CT compared to areas north and west of there in WMass and nearby areas.
This is not a blockbuster, and some areas may only end up with a tenth of an inch or two of rainfall, with more in the western high terrain like the Berkshires and SVT.
Showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will track east-northeast through the region this afternoon and evening, and wind down by about midnight with lows in the 40s with drying beginning late toward Thursday morning.
The end of the week looks lovely, albeit cooler with highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s. We should enjoy mostly sunny skies with potentially an isolated shower late Thursday. Lows Thursday night will be the coldest, dipping into the mid 30s to low 40s, yet hanging more in the 40s Friday night as we cloud up, which will prevent radiational cooling from dropping temps further.
By Saturday, we’ll see cloudy skies with a period of showers working through the region as a weak shortwave tracks west to east. Highs will rise into the low to mid 60s, with rain quitting by evening and lows dropping into the 40s.
Mother’s Day Sunday continues to look good with high pressure building into the region behind that exiting shortwave, and for now, mostly sunny skies look pretty likely with warming highs into the upper 60s to mid 70s!
Clouds will probably build late in the day towards evening, with lows dropping into the 45-50º range as a bigger storm may be setting up to bring needed rainfall in the form of an actual rainstorm.
This could combine a northern stream upper trough along with a juicy southern stream system that might phase over New England as it tracks northeast off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline.
Showers could arrive as early as late Sunday night, but for now this looks like a Monday rainstorm with a wet and slower morning commute. Highs Monday will reach the low to mid 60s, and with sunshine returning for Tuesday, similar high temps should result.
Beyond that, there’s a signal for even more showers on Wednesday, but if you’ll notice we’re surfacing more into the 60s when we’re cooler, so things are going in the right direction as we continue to seep into the warm season of 2026.
Have a great day!
