ONE MORE VERY WARM DAY BEFORE TEMPS DROP 40 DEGREES BY MONDAY… PATCHY DENSE FOG EARLY… ONE MORE ROUND OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THIS EVENING BEFORE MIDNIGHT...
Good morning folks, the booms arrived for some of us last night, and we’ll get one more chance to see a thunderstorm this evening and tonight before the booms leave us alone for a while as we begin to settle back into a more seasonable, cooler early Spring pattern by next week.
For this morning, we’ve got patchy dense fog out there as a wet ground from rainfall overnight has increased the dew point temps at a time when early morning air temps will falling to their lows. When the dewpoint and the air temp meet and shake hands they have a baby, and that baby is called fog, and some of that fog is quite dense in spots this morning.
However, any fog will be short-lived as our upper ridge down over the southeast U.S. will flex one last time and crawl up the coast, pushing our high temps into the mid 70s to mid 80s or so for highs today. The exception to that may be in far eastern Windham County CT and far eastern Worcester County in CMass where a back door cold front may cool us towards 70º.
Today looks partly sunny on average, and by late this afternoon we’ll be watching a shortwave and cold front sweep into northern NY headed for western parts of central and northern New England.
Given that we’re in the warm sector with plenty of moisture around, I expect some scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop by as early as later afternoon, but more likely after dinner time during the first half of the night.
Some storms may become strong to severe with strong wind or even larger hail, so I will keep an eye on it and update you again by this later afternoon.
Lows tonight will once again settle to either side of 60º, with highs on Friday reaching into the 70s, but not the 80s as our early summer heat breaks today.
A few scattered showers are possible Friday, and then cooler lows will sit down to near 50º.
Saturday looks like the pick of the weekend, but should be mostly cloudy and dry with highs in the 60s to near 70º as the next episode of The Coolening starts to be broadcast across the region. Lows at night will be in the 40s as clouds thicken.
By Sunday, a strong storm system that will bring snow to the James Bay area of Canada will be tracking well north of us and drag its pattern-changing cold front through the greater WMass region starting Sunday morning.
Showers and rainfall will push into the region by mid-morning or so, so expect a wet, cool day on Sunday with highs only in the 50s, and then falling in the afternoon into the upper 30s to 40s.
In fact, enough cold air may work in behind the cold front that we flip to wet snow in SVT and far northwest MA like the northern Berkshires or the western Franklin County hilltowns.
Sunday night lows will crash to the upper 20s to low 30s with some snow showers possible, and maybe even some patchy black ice!
Big changes ahead, folks… and Monday looks blustery and cold with highs only in the upper 30s to mid 40s with lows plummeting into the 20s by late Monday night.
We should start to rebound Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the upper 40s to mid 50s Tuesday under mostly sunny skies, but more showers move in with another cold front mid-week, so while we might hit 60º on Wednesday, I think it’s probable that we’ll temps head back down for the late week period, but I will keep you updated.
Have a great day!
