VERY WARM WEDNESDAY AHEAD WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS OR A STORM BY AFTERNOON… BETTER CHANCE OF DOWNPOURS OR THUNDER LATER TONIGHT… THURSDAY FINAL PEAK HEAT DAY THEN COOLER TEMPS FOLLOW

Good morning folks, did anyone else see the crescent moonrise this morning just as twilight was breaking out in the eastern sky? It was most celestial, to be sure, and that makes sense because we’ve got a lllooooooooooooottttt of SPACE around us, as evidenced by the recent Artemis II photographs from the Moon looking back to Earth, which by the way, as it turns out, is round.

Thanks very much for all the reports yesterday, some of those storms packed a punch with strong wind gusts which produced some areas of damage and outages.

For today, we’ve got another very warm day ahead with highs again in the mid 70s to mid 80s, and we’ll see some hit or miss showers or a thunderstorm starting toward mid-day and possible through the evening (which means many folks stay dry).

By later tonight, though, another wave will work through our region in this warm-sector pattern we’re in such that by midnight tonight said wave should generate clusters of showers and downpours with some thunder possible overnight with lows near 60º.

This warm sector pattern is being produced by a strong upper ridge in the southeast U.S. which will continue to climb the eastern seaboard through Thursday, when highs will again reach the mid 70s to mid 80s under partly sunny skies with only isolated showers expected. Lows will again be near 60º.

Once we reach Friday, we’ll be dealing with what I believe is the last shortwave in this pattern which at some point during the day should help develop scattered showers and thunderstorms, one or two of which may become strong.

More clouds are expected for Friday with highs more firmly in the 70s followed by lows in the 50s.

On Saturday, our southeast upper ridge will have fully receded southward, so given that along with a mostly cloudy day expected, highs will hang in the 60s, which is still above average for mid-April! Lows will drop into the 40s as clouds thicken up. Given the expected dry conditions, Saturday is definitely looking like the weekend pick with milder temps despite the sky cover.

By Sunday morning, a cold front will be swinging east through New York state and Pennsylvania and pushing showers into the greater WMass region by mid to late morning.

Showers will sweep through during Sunday morning into afternoon, and we may even end as some wet snow or mix in the Berkshires and/or SVT by early afternoon with temps coming down into the upper 30s to 40s after potentially reaching the low to mid 50s Sunday morning before the front passes east.

Westerly winds will pick up and gust up to 25mph by Sunday evening and temps will drop towards freezing as colder air seeps into the region. A few snow showers are possible as well.

Monday morning into Tuesday morning will represent the peak cool period behind our front with highs only in the 40s with westerly winds gusting up to 30mph, which will produce a cool and blustery day under partly sunny skies. Lows at night will dip into the 20s!

Temps should moderate into middle of next week, but we’re not going back to our current week’s temps, that’s for sure. #BackToReality

Have a great day!
