SHOWERS LEAVE, WIND ARRIVES, WARMTH / SUN SURGES TODAY… DRIER, COOLER, SUNNIER FRI. & SAT… SATURDAY NIGHT SHOWERS LEAD TO SUNSHINE INTO MID-WEEK WHEN UNSEASONABLE WARMTH MAY SET UP
Good morning everybody, overnight showers are winding down and clearing the region after dropping about a tenth to half an inch of rainfall (more in parts of SVT). Our cold front is approaching and behind it westerlies will kick up and gust to 30mph or so today with increasing sun and warmth with more changes to come, so let’s all do a cannonball into the detailed deep end of our upcoming weather picture.
For today, early clouds and leftover showers will give way to increasing sunshine as the cold front pushes east through our region.
Behind this front, sunshine will develop and increase, as well as westerly winds gusting 20-35mph at times. Warmth will lag the front, and so we can expect a very warm September day with highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s from high terrain to the valley, with cooler and drier air finally moving in tonight into Friday.
Lows tonight will dip into the low to mid 50s under partly cloudy skies with winds slackening.
For Friday and Saturday, high pressure will be working in from the west and will produce plenty of sunshine and highs in the upper 60s to upper 70s with lows in the mid to upper 40s Friday night.
By Saturday evening, clouds will be increasing which will help lows hang more around the 60º mark. Showers will push into the region from a wave that tracks northeast into southern New England.
A few showers could be on the heavier side and may continue into Sunday prior to an upper ridge moving into the region by early to mid next week.
Highs Sunday will reach the mid to upper 70s with drying by Sunday night and lows bottoming out either side of 60º once again.
Early to next week is increasingly set to become a real warmth and humidity surge prior to another cool down, which may be signaling a pattern change to cooler conditions for the latter half of September, though I’m putting that out there with a grain of salt.
Regardless, early to the middle of next week should feature plenty of sunshine and warming temps as a strong southeastern upper ridge blossoms and builds, pumping warmer and more humid air up and into New England.
Highs Monday and Tuesday should push somewhere into the mid 70s to low 80s range, followed by possible surge well into the 80s for Wednesday with a few valley towns in the Springfield to Hartford stretch hitting 90º possibly.
Beyond that, cooler temps are expected, but we’ll get to those as we get closer. For now, another showery period arrives Saturday night into Sunday preceded by cooler and drier conditions (after today’s warmth and wind) and then warmer and more humid conditions the first part of next week.
Have a great day!
