SEESAW CONDITIONS WITH NO BIG STORMS IN SIGHT… SOME RAIN ANDSNOW SHOWERS TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY AM, AND AGAIN WEDNESDAY PM INTO THURSDAY AM… VERY COLD BY FRIDAY MORNING...
Good morning folks, as mentioned in the headline we’ve got some Mary Tyler Moore weather on the way – we’re gonna make it after all! #Meow
That reference deeply dates me, but what can I say, I’m a child of the 70s and happily so, despite my middle-aged dings, dents and scrapes.
As for our incoming weather, I had mentioned in a post late yesterday morning that the ingredients weren’t looking like they’d come together to produce a big snowstorm over the northeast U.S. (despite earlier signals) and that continues to be the case, I believe.
Instead, we’ll see a bunch of weaker systems: one overnight tonight, a second overnight Wednesday night, and another overnight Saturday into Sunday with only high-terrain light snow accumulations expected with low-terrain / valley rain or mix with snow and rain expected as of now.
For today, fair weather rules with sunshine and highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Clouds will increase tonight as a storm passes far to our north, swiping us with its weakening southerly showery shield, which will push some rain and snow showers through with lows in the low to mid 30s. Some coatings are possible in the Berkshires or SVT.
For Wednesday, we’ll remain mostly cloudy with mild highs in the low to mid 40s, with showers expected by afternoon and lasting into the night, changing to light snow in the Berkshires, western hilltowns and SVT/SWMH with a coating to an inch or so there. Eastern Franklin County highlands into northern CMass may see some scattered coatings as well.
After our Thursday system departs, a cold front will sweep through and keep highs only in the upper 20s to mid 30s, with temps then crashing into the single digits to low teens late Thursday night as winds pick up behind the front.
Westerly gusts could reach speeds of 25-40mph, and as such wind chill readings will drop into the single digits above and below zero (below zero relegated to the hilltowns and mountain areas of our region).
For Friday, after a very cold start, we’ll only see highs push into the mid to upper 20s under sunny skies as high pressure builds through and starts to pass to our south. Lows will be in the teens to low 20s.
Saturday looks milder with high pressure to our south, with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s, but another cold front will be set to move through the region by Sunday. Some storminess is possible with snow showers Saturday night into Sunday, but I’ll dial that in as we get closer.
For now, after any precip moves through, we’re going to see a deeper cold shot with highs in the low to mid 30s Sunday, followed by 20s for highs into early next week under partly to mostly sunny skies.
Hold the door for someone today… I hope things go well for you.
