THERE'S LIGHT AT THE END OF THE ARCTIC TUNNEL, AFTER EARLY SATURDAY LIGHT SNOW, FOLLOWED BY BLUSTERY WINDS DRIVING WIND CHILLS AS LOW AS -35º BELOW ZERO BY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING...

Good evening folks, it’s been another tolerable winter day, though still featuring unseasonably cold high temperatures which should be more towards the mid to upper 30s this time of year for southern New England and the Pioneer Valley. We’ll take what we can get, especially in light of the next Arctic blast that’s set to run through our region Saturday through Monday morning before we rebound temps by next Tuesday and Wednesday.

There’s not a whole of change from yesterday or the day before, as I am expecting another pair of fair weather days for Thursday and Friday with tolerable high temps peaking out in the 20s to low 30s with a good deal of sunshine. Lows temps tonight and Thursday night will be very cold with our widespread deep snow pack, hanging in the single digits, with some single-digit-below-zero readings in spots.

By Friday, highs reach the upper teens to upper 20s under partly sunny skies, after which clouds will increase and a weak Clipper system tracks southeast into New England, possibly redeveloping south of New England.

Light snow should hold off reaching the greater WMass region until later Friday night, perhaps 9pm to midnight, with periods of light snow into early Saturday afternoon before quitting.

Some folks may even see just air snow, as these weak systems sometimes never get the lift needed to produce steady light accumulating snow, but I am still calling for a coating to an inch or so, and we could see a couple of snow squalls on Saturday toward mid day as the Arctic front comes through the region.

That’s going to be the big story, as northwest winds will pick up and gust 25-40mph at times later in the afternoon and into Saturday night.

Highs Saturday in the mid teens to low 20s will crash into the -15º to 0º range with dangerously cold wind chills as low as -20º to -35º, so you’re going to need to protect your body if you’re heading out, and protect your pipes, pets, animals, etc.

Sunday morning looks brutally cold and highs Sunday will only reach the single digits for the most part under sunny skies, with below zero low temps once again.

Monday through Wednesday should feature more sunshine with highs Monday in the mid teens to low 20s as our Arctic blast lifts northeast and out of our region.

After that highs should then crest into the mid 20s to low 30s through mid-week prior to the potential for a weak system capable of delivering some lighter snow or mixed precip as milder temps start to nudge up into our region for the first time in a good long while!

Have a great night!
