WEAK COLD FRONT COOLS US MID TO LATE WEEK PRIOR TO LIGHT SNOW LATE FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY… THIS SYSTEM WILL PRECEDE AN ARCTIC FRONT THAT WILL SWEEP THROUGH SATURDAY...

Good evening folks, we’ve hit a stretch of milder and fair weather which is most welcome after a couple weekends of substantial snowfalls and a longstanding Arctic blast of some of the coldest air we’ve seen in 11 or 12 years.

For tonight, we have some clouds gathering as a weak cold front is pushing into western NY and the eastern Great Lakes that will push through Wednesday and bring some northwesterly breezes and slightly colder temps with highs mostly in the upper teens to 20s, with lows in the single digits Wednesday through Friday night.

So, fair weather is expected mid to late this week, and by Friday afternoon we’ll see clouds increase ahead of our incoming Clipper system for late Friday night into Saturday about mid-day.

This weak storm will be developing in front of or along an incoming Arctic cold front, and may also be accompanied by a few snow squalls on Saturday.

The bottom line is that a very light snowfall is expected on the order of a coating to an inch or two in most spots, with up to 3” possible in the southern Greens of VT.

By Saturday afternoon our Arctic front will swing through and it looks like it will mean business in terms of stronger wind gusts, very cold air and wind chills as low as -20º to -30º by early Sunday morning.

High air temps both weekend days will range from the low single digits to low teens, with lows down to -15º to near 0º.

It is Saturday night into Sunday morning that will feature the most impactful cold weather conditions, and it is for that timeframe that Cold Weather Advisories are likely to be hoisted if trends continue, with the decent potential for Extreme Cold Watches and/or Warnings to be hoisted for areas like the Berkshires and western hilltowns at least.

Sunday wind should sit down as the afternoon and evening wears on but we’ll kick off the following work week with a very cold start.

After that, we should see temps start to come back up into mid-week with fair weather, ahead of a potential accumulating snow or mixed precipitation event by later in the week.

No morning report tomorrow, but I will again report in the early evening and resume the morning reports as of Thursday morning, and if you value my work and want to support it through 2026, you can contribute below (my free iPhone app is available for download as well). Thank you so much, Dave.
