MORNING SUNSHINE BEGETS INCREASING W-NW WIND GUSTS OF 30-45MPH TODAY, ALONG WITH COOLING TEMPS AND ACCUMULATING SNOW IN THE WESTERN HIGH TERRAIN...

Good morning folks, our storm and its warm front is off to our east and our cold front is on the way this Sunday morning. We’ve got some patchy fog, with temps in the upper 30s to 40s for the most part, and we can generally expect these temps to be our highs after a rise into mid morning or so. After that, temps are coming DOWN through the afternoon behind the cold front.

In addition, we’re going to see a strong pressure gradient behind said front combine with much colder temps moving aloft to help generate west-northwesterly wind gusts of 30-45mph today, and possibly reaching 50mph in some high terrain areas.

And if that weren’t enough, the lake effect machine will kick on and we could see some multi-lake connection of very long-range snow bands off of Lake Huron, through Lake Ontario, and into the Taconics, Berkshires, and Litchfield Hills later this afternoon with some coatings from those lake effect bands, which may include a brief squall.

Some of those showers will survive into the Pioneer Valley, but may be mixed with or fall as rain.

As we move deeper into the afternoon and into sunset, our lake effect activity will recede into the background as a more impactful upslope snowfall event sets up in its place over the Berkshires, northwestern hilltowns (western Franklin / Hampshire) and especially over the southern Greens of SVT as persistent westerly-component wind acts on leftover moisture, producing persistent periods of snow showers tonight into Monday.

In fact, from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon a coating to 2” is expected for many in the aforementioned areas, and in the southern Greens 2-6” is likely where Winter Weather Advisories are posted, with some folks possibly seeing 8” above 2500 feet! The Searsburg Pass is gonna be a tough go late tonight into early Monday morning, I would imagine!

Lows tonight will drop into the low 20s to low 30s, and with winds continuing to gust 25-40mph, we’re gonna see wind chills drop into the teens to mid 20s overnight.

If Archie Bunker were a meteorologist, he (with respect to early Monday morning) would freak out and yell “BUNDLE IT, would ya?!”

Winds and some lighter snow showers in the western high terrain will continue Monday, but both should weaken with time, with highs only reaching the upper 20s to upper 30s, so another early winter day is on the way to kick off the work week. Lows will hang in the 20s.

Breezy conditions may continue for part of Tuesday, but winds should be weakening as we head through Tuesday into Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure builds in from the west and passes into New England.

Highs will reach the upper 30s to upper 40s Tuesday through Thursday, with lows in the mid to upper 20s under mostly sunny skies with partly cloudy nights.

Clouds will increase by this coming Friday as another storm system is set to pass to our north, pushing another set of frontal boundaries our way and more rainfall by Friday afternoon, lasting through the night and into Saturday.

I would expect temps to cool back down by later Saturday into Sunday with a potential for some high terrain rain or snow showers into Sunday, but I will update you as we get closer.

Have a great day, and perhaps consider giving a friend a call that you haven’t spoken to in a while…someone you’ve been meaning to connect with… maybe today’s the day?
