HAPPY AUTUMN TO YOU! EASTERLY GUSTS PICK UP THRU END OF WEEK FOLLOWED BY A NOR’EASTER WHICH IS LOOKING PRETTY LIKELY FOR LATE FRIDAY NIGHT THRU SUNDAY WITH RAIN AND WIND…

Good morning folks, we continue to have strong high pressure stacked to our north and as lower pressures slowly develop to our south and slowly push north, the next few days will become breezier with easterly gusts of 15-30mph each day possible. Beyond that, we’re likely going to see rain and wind impacts from an early-season coastal nor’easter starting later Friday night and lasting through the weekend at least. Beyond that, uncertainty remains as to how our stacked, weakening system dissipates and gets out of here, but stormier times appear as of now to be straight ahead.

For today and tomorrow, fair weather is expected as high pressure dominates our region with mostly sunny skies, low humidity, highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s, and easterly gusts due to the pressure gradient, reaching speeds of 15-30mph at times. Lows will be in the upper 30s to mid 40s tonight, and the 40s Thursday night.

Friday is our transition day as an upper low tracks east towards New England, while surface low pressure develops over the ocean waters to our south, with our strong high positioned to our north.

This is a CLASSIC cyclogenesis setup for the northeast U.S. and coast to crank up a storm with strong wind and heavy precipitation capable of all hazards such as outages, flooding, beach erosion, etc.

Being well inland, the greater WMass region sees less of these types of impacts as it’s harder to generate a storm of such proximity and magnitude to really paste this area like the coasts get hit, so to be sure, it’s southeastern New England that will bear the brunt of this early-season gale with several inches of rainfall and gusts over 60mph possible.

For us back home, I think that Friday starts out partly sunny in the morning, and then clouds up in the afternoon with breezy conditions, but I think we avoid any showers until Friday night. Highs again will be in the low to mid 60s.

By Friday night, clouds will thicken as our storm comes closer to the Cape and Islands, tracking north, and some showers may develop by late Friday night, especially well east of the I-91 corridor.

As our upper low continues to approach the Mid-Atlantic coastline, its influence along with the pressure gradient and with the high pressure to our north will combine with very warm ocean waters to fuel our nor’easter’s development, and also slow its track down, and even pull it westward for a time.

How far west will it track? I have no idea right now, but the bottom line is that we’ve got a storm that will likely produce northeasterly wind gusts of 25-40mph and possibly 35-50mph in some high terrain areas, especially in Worcester County and northeast CT Saturday night into Sunday along with periods of rain, heavy at times.

With mostly-leaved trees this could cause lots of downed leaves, clogged drains, street flooding, and slippery leaf-covered wet road conditions into the second half of the weekend with stormy conditions through Sunday before the storm weakens.

I honestly don’t know where the storm will track yet, how far west, how slow is it to get out of our northeast U.S. region by early next week, so I am going to have to update you, but a solid nor’easter storm continues to look likely with weekend impacts of rain and wind, and some of the other hazards mentioned above.

I will keep you updated, and hope you have a great day!
