LOW CHANCE FOR FREEZING DRIZZLE, VERY LIGHT SNOW, OR "SNIZZLE" AFTER MIDNIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING... WATCH FOR SLIPPERY SURFACES IN THE EARLY MORNING...
Good evening everybody, I just wanted to post a quick report to say that we have a non-zero chance for some isolated slick spots after midnight and before noon tomorrow in the southern half of our region (basically south of the Rt. 2 corridor).
The best chance of this low probability for icing to form tomorrow morning would be south of the Pike in far southern MA and down into northern CT / RI.
Currently, we have high pressure tracking out to sea with clockwise circulation (meaning southerly flow on its west side) and low pressure to our south tracking toward the coast (meaning southerly flow on its east side), so a weak but persistent southerly flow is increasing moisture northward into southern New England overnight because of the high and low.
In response, a diffuse area of lower pressure will develop to the north of our offshore low center and may induce scattered light precip within a sub-freezing surface.
This means that either very light snow, or freezing drizzle, or a mix of the two will try to form in CT/RI overnight and track northeast into WMass and CMass, especially along and east of I-91 and generally south of Rt. 2.
This is a minor event, and likely doesn’t impact many of us but all you need is a glaze of ice to cause slippery travel, so it’s just something to be aware of.
We’ll be drying Saturday afternoon, night and into the first part of Sunday before more snow showers are possible with an Arctic front that passes through Sunday night into early Monday.
Have a great night, Dave.
