TWO ROUNDS OF LIGHT SNOW THIS WEEKEND AMOUNTING TO A COATING TO 3" BY SUNDAY NOON...
Good Friday evening everybody, we’ve had some flurries or some light snow showers out in the Taconics, far SW.VT and parts of the northern Berkshires today as the lake effect machine turned on once again. A few flurries even dotted the valley, which will be a harbinger of more light snow to come this weekend.
The wind is now dying down, and will continue to weaken with time as the pressure gradient moves away by around midnight with a bit more moisture moving in for Saturday morning in the form of cloudiness with perhaps some morning sunshine before we cloud up. Lows will dip into the mid to upper teens overnight.
As it turns out, ahead of the phasing between our incoming upper low to our northwest and our surface low that will form into a strengthening system off the DelMarVa and pass well southeast of us, we’ll see a period of snow showers or perhaps some steady light snow by late morning into the afternoon for our Saturday, most likely north of the Pike in WMass/CMass, SVT and SWNH.
Some coatings are possible, and a few areas may see up to an inch of new snow in the high terrain.
Then we’ll get a lull and by later at night, the northern fringe of our weekend coastal storm will push more light snow back into the area, again mainly south of the Rt. 2 corridor in MA, CT and RI for late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
All in all, between both areas of light snow, a coating to 2″ is expected across the entire greater WMass region.
Sure, there will probably be some holes in that snow blanket, with some folks getting a dusting to nothing, but I think enough towns are gonna see light snow that falls onto a very cold surface such that snow should stick pretty easily, and so it warrants the widespread C-2″ expectation.
In addition, south of the Pike could see some steadier snow as there will be more moisture down that way with better lift into the snow growth zone, so a burst of moderate snow is possible in northern CT, and a few areas down that way may see up to 3″ of snow.
Saturday’s highs will rise into the low to mid 30s, with highs on Sunday only in the 20s, with an Arctic front delivering more wind and Arctic cold for Sunday night into Monday.
I will update again tomorrow morning… hope you have a great night!
