YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning folks, we received a bit of rain overnight which is was most welcome, but most saw a quarter inch or less, and it won’t do really anything to dent the drought as wind out of the southwest today and northwest tomorrow will evaporate our surfaces.
Despite an early morning rogue shower, drier air is moving in on southwest flow behind this front which will help push temps up into the 60s for highs today in the Pioneer Valley points east and south, with 50s in the western hilltowns and Berkshires up into SVT. Lows will drop into the mid 30s to low 40s.
Enjoy the mild day today with increasing sunshine, as we’ll be dropping back toward seasonable temperatures tomorrow into the upcoming weekend.
Wind will continue to be in an issue both today, and especially on Tuesday when Red Flag Warnings will *again* likely be hoisted.
West-southwest winds will gust 15-30mph today, so we will see an elevated risk of fire spread, but after that wind dries our surfaces, we’ll see a stronger and mostly dry cold front crash from northwest to southeast overnight.
This will bring a few isolated rain or snow showers to SVT or the Berkshires, but most importantly it will usher in colder Canadian air and tighten the pressure gradient which will cause northwest to north-northwest winds to gust 25-40mph on Tuesday.
This could lead to rapid fire growth, so CONTINUE to pause any outside burns, cookouts, campfires, etc.
It will be quite blustery on Tuesday with highs only in the low 40s to near 50º, and some folks in southern VT may not even crest 40 degrees!
Lows will quite chilly, way down into the 20s with wind gusts continuing under mostly clear skies.
Wednesday through Friday look partly to mostly sunny with less wind as high pressure moves into the region. Highs should mostly be in the 40s with lows in the 20s.
By the weekend we may see a retrograding ocean low center (a storm that moves east to west or southeast to northwest) push some clouds or even a few showers back into eastern parts of the greater WMass region, but that’s still a ways off, so I will continue to monitor it.
Otherwise our temps might come up a bit into the low to mid 50s for highs under partly sunny skies overall. Have a great day!
