–A moisture starved cold front pushes into the region today
–This in tandem with an upper level trough will produce some clouds at times along with a few rain or snow showers
–Highs will reach the mid 30s to low 40s under partly to mostly sunny skies, with lows in the low 20s
–Wednesday thru Friday feature high pressure building into the region with mostly sunny skies, and highs in the upper 30s to mid 40s tomorrow, and then firmly in the 30s Thursday and Friday
–Lows tomorrow night are in the 20s, but only the teens Thursday and Friday night under clear skies with northwest flow
–By Saturday, a weak disturbance may bring a few mixed showers with highs in the mid to upper 30s
–Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be milder and dry, reaching the low to mid 40s for highs

Good morning everybody, we have entered a quiet period of weather after yesterday’s tempest which at one point had knocked out power to over 800,000 households in New England, and saw the Blue Hill Observatory in Milton, MA clocking a 90mph wind gust!!
We also saw flash flooding at the Mill River in Florence, and the Green River in Greenfield, as well as other rivers, streams and tributaries. I was on the Pike yesterday afternoon and saw water gushing out of rock outcroppings in Becket, MA.
Most of the smaller river streams have decreased their flows, but they all feed into the Connecticut River, and our main river will be in flood today at Montague and Northampton in MA, and at Thompsonville and Hartford in CT. The minor flooding at these sites should crest today/tonight, and recede tomorrow through the week.

FLOODING IMPACTS:
At 114.0 feet, Flooding affects the Oxbow in Northampton, including Riverside Homes on Island Road. Flooding also spreads across parts of Hadley. In Hatfield, back water from thE Connecticut River will push the Mill River over its banks flooding parts of Valley Street and surrounding areas.
ADDITIONAL FLOOD DETAILS:
— At 4:00 AM EST Tuesday the stage was 113.4 feet.
— Bankfull stage is 112.0 feet.
— The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 4:00 AM EST Tuesday was 113.4 feet.
— Forecast: The river is expected to rise to a crest of 114.1 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow evening.
— Flood stage is 112.0 feet.
— Flood History: This crest compares to a previous crest of 114.1 feet on 04/02/1962.

As for our weather through the Christmas holiday, the weekly nutshell above covers most of it.
We can expect mostly sunny skies through Friday, with some clouds building today along with a few snow or rain showers.
Otherwise, it’s fair weather until at least Saturday with Thursday through Friday night being the coldest part of the upcoming 7 days.
After a low chance for a few showers Saturday, Sunday and Monday (XMas Eve and Day) look a bit milder and sunny.
The next chance for storminess is around next Wednesday into Thursday, so enjoy this deserved atmospheric rest while we have it.
