YOUR MORNING DISCUSSION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning everybody, got snow? Let a Nut know!
We’ve got a trough (an area of lower than average pressures) that is connecting our upper low over eastern PA and our coastal low to our south and southeast, producing a channel of broad atmospheric lift, which is interacting with the incoming upper low to produce a bloom of snow showers this morning in the high terrain of western CT, western MA and southern VT.
A coating to an inch or so of snow accumulation is expected in some areas.
As you descend in elevation, rain will mix in at times, whereas other valley dwellers may just see plain rain. Either way, no accumulation is expected in the Pioneer Valley floor, including points east and south of there.
The snow is mostly confined to the high terrain in CT, MA and VT west of the I-91 corridor today.
This will wane by mid afternoon or so, and it will be chilly with highs only in the upper 30s to mid 40s.
Forr tonight, our hard freeze arrives, ending the growing season for everybody, so pick the tender veg, protect the plants and take the precautions – all things must pass, as George Harrrison beautifully crooned. Lows will be in the 20s!
Thursday will start COLD, and highs will only get up into the upper 30s to upper 40s from high terrain to valley floor, and lows will again be in the upper 20s to low 30s, but at least it will be sunny and clear respectively!
Friday through Sunday look lovely at the moment, and we may FINALLY break out weekend rainy streak!
For now it looks mostly sunny through the period as high pressure develops south of us and pumps southwest flow into the region, bringing temps into the 50s for highs Friday and Saturday, and into the low 60s by Sunday. Even Monday looks nice!!
Thereafter, we’ve got some rain chances, but hey, let’s enjoy the first snow for those that see it today, knowing it won’t really stick around (though if you get 1-2″ today, it could stick through tomorrow!). I may have to go snow chasing!
First snow, first hard freeze, the seasons are changing!
This is why I love living here and reporting on our weather to all of you.
Have a great day!
>>> BE KIND <<<
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
