Western Mass Regional Weather for September 11, 2022

Good morning everybody, we’ve got clouds over the region today and despite a few sunny breaks being possible, we’ll also see a few isolated showers at times, especially tonight into early Monday before more showers and storms arrive by Tuesday with fair, dry, and cooler conditions for late week, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local weekend sponsor, #YankeeMattressFactory, with their main headquarters in Agawam, MA along with stores located around the valley.

A NOTE FROM OUR WEEKEND SPONSOR:
DHTWN is sponsored by members, patrons, and Yankee Mattress Factory. Yankee Mattress is employee-owned, and mattresses are handmade locally in Agawam, MA. Several years ago I purchased a Yankee mattress and was very pleased with their quality and the buying experience, which was friendly and low pressure. Starting on September 1st and running through October 31st, Yankee Mattress will be partnering with the American Cancer Society to raise money to support breast cancer research and local services. A portion of each mattress sale will go towards their goal of donating $10,000 towards this cause. ***DHTWN DAILY WEATHER REPORT***
——————————————-
Good morning everybody, we’re still in this weekly pattern of best shower chances arriving during the early portion of each week, and that looks to continue for this coming week and the week after, for that matter.

I do not claim to understand the science behind it, but I do understand that we get into these patterns of varying wavelengths, whereby during fairly equally spaced periods of time we get repeats of similar weather conditions, and that seems to be in play currently.

We’ve got lots of fair weather coming in, interspersed with some showery or rainy conditions every 5-7 days now.

Today marks the beginning of the unsettled part of that cycle, as clouds are steaming overhead from west to east this morning.

This will continue today, and despite a few sunny breaks being possible, we’ll see a mostly cloudy day as high pressure continues to move east and off of the coastline with time with an upper low moving into the Great Lakes region.

A few showers are possible today, but should be light to moderate and quick moving if you do see one. Highs will be in the 70s with lows near 60º tonight as some more scattered showers work into the region and into early Monday morning hours before abating as a warm front likely stalls south of us.

For Monday, we’ll see more sunshine, but clouds will still be mixed in and highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s (lows mid 60s).

By afternoon toward the evening, we should see more scattered showers work into the region in the pre-frontal trough ahead of the cold front that sweeps through on Tuesday. We also have to see if the warm front stays south of us, drapes over us, or pushes through briefly before Tuesday’s cold front as that could impact our weather too, so I will update on that tomorrow morning.

Anyway, by late Monday night into Tuesday is when the main, most substantial area of showers and thunderstorms arrive, and a few storms may be strong given plenty of wind shear that is expected. The buoyancy (or lapse) rates will be pretty poor, so it’ll be hard to get a tall t-storm to develop and cause problems other than heavy rain.

Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s on Tuesday with showery conditions tapering off by evening, with (hopefully) swift clearing and lows in the mid to upper 50s as drier, cooler air works into the region behind the front.

Afterwards, high pressure builds into the region and the result is that our Wednesday through Saturday period looks lovely! Mostly sunny skies, mostly clear nights, highs in the low to mid 70s Wednesday, with upper 60s to low 70s Thursday and Friday, and lows in the 40s! We may even see a few upper 30s in SVT by early Friday morning!

Have a great day!

AND REMEMBER…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
