DISCUSSION:
Good morning everybody, we’ve got high pressure building into the region today along with our fresh injection of Arctic air.
Northwest winds will continue to gust 15-25mph at times this morning, but should slacken with time, revealing a cold, sunny, late-winter day with highs in the teens and 20s.
For tonight, we have one more very cold night to move through, where radiational cooling should be maximized despite a chance for some cloudiness overnight. Lows will be in the single digits to teens depending on where you are (see ZoneCast above), but if clouds maximize unexpectedly, many may hang in the low teens.
For Tuesday, a Clipper system will be approaching the region with some snow showers possible in the afternoon in southern VT and southwest NH.
With southwest flow, temps will come up into the mid to upper 30s, which means some afternoon showers may fall as rain or as mixed rain and snow showers in parts of WMass.
Tuesday night is when the system moves through and we can’t rule out some coatings, especially in northwest MA and southern VT at elevation, with other areas seeing no accumulation. Lows will be in the upper 20s to low 30s.
On Wednesday, we’ll be in between systems with continued southwest flow and highs reaching the upper 30s to low 40s under mostly cloudy skies.
Our second Clipper arrives Wednesday night into early Thursday morning and could be a touch more touchy, bringing potential for light snow accumulations, but I’ll update as we get closer. Lows will be in the 20s as colder air arrives with this system.
Thursday and Friday are colder and mostly sunny with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s, and lows in the single digits Thursday night and teens Friday night.
Clouds will be building on Saturday, as will temps up into the 30s, but depending on the timing of arrival of our next storm system, it may move in at night, which would mean a wintry mix event, changing to rain by Sunday morning as temps warm into the 40s by Sunday.
