Good morning everybody, its cold outside! Actually, it’s Fall outside. It has been a very pleasant Autumn, actually. Yes, milder than average for a good chunk so far, but everyone usually complains we go right from Summer to Winter and that we don’t have shoulder seasons anymore. This Fall has bucked that trend, so we’ll take it, and now proceed into a deeper Autumn pattern for at least a week or so into early November, and see what’s around the corner when we get closer to the incoming new month.

—————————
For today, mostly sunny skies are expected but sun may be filtered through high clouds at times. Highs will only be in the upper 40s to low 50s! Chilly! At least the winds will be light.

For tonight, clouds will increase as a disturbance lifts northeast out of the Mid-Atlantic and brings some showers around or after midnight and especially through Monday morning. Lows tonight should generally sit in the 35-40º range. Precip should be light enough to not allow for snow to mix in at the high elevations in southern VT, but don’t be surprised if you see some up that way above 2000 feet.

For Monday, morning showers give way to general atmospheric malaise with cloudy skies, drizzle at times, a stray shower here and there, and cool temps with highs either side of 50º. Patchy fog can’t be ruled out either.

A good soup day or evening.

At night, a few more showers or drizzle and/or gloom patches possible (my new metal band’s name will be called Patches of Gloom), with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s.

On Tuesday, another mostly cloudy day is expected with a few showers possible, though drying should be slowly inching toward the region for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Highs Tuesday will be in the 45-50º range, and lows in the mid 30s.

Wednesday looks like a brief day of high pressure with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 50s (our new “warm” day, for the moment). Lows will be near 40º as clouds build back into the region.

Thursday it gets interesting!

The remnants of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Zeta will be tracking northeast toward the Mid-Atlantic region, kicked along by a trough behind it. Colder high pressure will be moving into place to our northwest, and another high pressure system to our southeast will help ensure the storm threads the needle and brings precipitation to southern New England Thursday afternoon, night, and very early Friday morning.

Given the cold air waiting in the wings, and milder air to the southeast and a moist low with Zeta’s remnants in the middle, we could have a quick-moving coastal low passing south of the region and bringing a good bout of rain to the region, with high elevation snowfall on the back end in the Berkshires, SVT, and northwestern hilltowns of WMass Thursday night and after midnight on Friday.

Based on this setup, if it all coalesces, it’s possible that a coating to 2″ of snow could fall on the aforementioned areas in northwest MA, SVT and the Taconics, and possible even down into the Litchfield Hills of northwest CT and western Hampden County. The valley could see some snow mix in at the end, but no accumulation seems possible there at the moment.

Friday looks COLD, with highs only in the low to mid 40s!!

Cold for the weekend too, at least Saturday, but more on that as we get closer.

Stay tuned for updates, and please be sure to pick up one or 3 of my 2021 Weather Wall Calendars today via secure order form, or you can pay by check… message me with any questions, thanks!
